What NFC cards do CommBox products support?

Find out if your NFC card will work with the CommBox Sensor Box or NFC sensor in the Classic S5.

There are a huge range of NFC devices in the market. Here we are providing standard information to assist yiou to validate in advance if your NFC cards will work with the CommBox Sensor box or NFC sensor in the Classic S5. It is strongly suggested that for school or corporate rollouts an NFC card is sent to us to test. Alternatively, you can purchase the CommBox NFC card that will work with the CommBox Sensor and Classic S5.

The CommBox Sensor Box and Classic S5 NFC sensor is based on NFC standard - ISO 14443 A/B which is sometimes called NFC-A/NFC-B. The sensor box requires the NFC card or NFC device to use a static UID (this is the first code sector in the card that the sensor box reads). Some examples of types of cards and devices we have tested include:

  • MIRFARE Family of NFC devices/cards
    • MIFARE Classic (EV1) 1K
    • MIFARE Classic 1K V (encoding)
    • MIRARE Ultralight (EV1)
    • MIFARE Ultralight C
    • MIFARE F08
    • MIFARE F08 V (encoding)
  • NFC Cards in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet
  • NFC cards in your wallet with static UID

There will be other NFC cards that are supported that CommBox is not aware of. This list will increase over time as customers validate support of the NFC card with the sensor box.

What NFC devices do we not support?

  • The CommBox Sensor does not support:
    • Encrypted cards that require an encryption key to be on the NFC reader. The CommBox Sensor cannot have private encryption keys added.
    • NFC devices where the UID is dynamic. This would include some cards in your Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, like EFTPOS cards where the UID changes each time you tap.
    • Cards in your Apple or Google Wallet that only have a barcode (are not NFC cards)
