What to do if you're prompted for an unknown PIN on your CommBox Classic S4

If you're asked for a PIN when accessing settings or installing apps on your CommBox Classic S4, and you don’t know it, here’s how to troubleshoot and regain access.

Applies to: Classic S4, Classic S4+

Understanding the PIN Prompt

Some CommBox screens may have an administrator PIN enabled to prevent unauthorised changes. PINs controls access to:

  • Device Settings

  • System Settings

🛡️ The PIN is usually created during the initial setup process and is not set by default.

Where the PINs are managed

The Device Settings PIN can be enabled, changed, or removed via the Swipe-Up Menu > Lock tab. To clear it, you must enter the existing PIN.

The Android Settings PIN can be enabled, changed or removed via Settings > System Settings > Password > Settings Lock Password.

What to do to unlock the PIN

Step 1: Ask around

Ask your school or workplace IT admin — they may know or have set the PIN.

Step 2: Try a factory reset

If no one knows the PIN, you can reset the CommBox:

  1. Tap the Settings icon from the side menu.

  2. Select System.

  3. Tap Factory Settings.

  4. Follow the prompts.

🛑 If you're asked for the PIN at this stage and still can’t access it, read on.

Step 3: Contact CommBox Support

If the PIN prevents a factory reset, CommBox Support can help. They’ll guide you through performing a firmware reset via USB.

This process will:

  • Wipe the device

  • Remove all settings, apps, and user data

  • Return your CommBox to factory state

Troubleshooting / What to Do If It Doesn’t Work

  • Tried all known PINs? Double-check with all administrators or teachers who’ve used the device.

  • Factory Reset not accessible? CommBox can walk you through a USB firmware update.

💡 Tip: Record any PINs used during setup and store them in a safe place for future reference.
