How to use the new Australian and New Zealand handwriting fonts in CommBox Whiteboard on the Classic S5
The Goanna firmware update adds state and territory handwriting fonts to the CommBox Whiteboard so you can model correct letterforms for students right on the big screen — aligned with the curriculum in every state and territory.
Applies To
CommBox Classic S5 — All models (Goanna firmware and above, CommBox Whiteboard updated to latest version)
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Update the CommBox Whiteboard
- Open the CommBox Store and check for any available updates to the Whiteboard app.
- Install the update before continuing.
Step 2: Open the CommBox Whiteboard
- From the home screen or side menu, tap Whiteboard.
Step 3: Select the Write to Text pen
- Tap the Pen icon in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen.
- Select the Write to Text pen style.
Step 4: Change the font
- With the Write to Text pen selected, tap the pen settings icon.
- Tap Font and choose the handwriting font for your state or territory:
- Education: Beginner — ACT / NSW
- Education: Beginner — NT / VIC / WA
- Education: Beginner — QLD
- Education: Beginner — SA
- Education: Beginner — TAS
- Education: Beginner — NZ
Step 5: Write on the whiteboard
- Use the stylus or your finger to write on the screen.
- Your writing will be converted to text in the selected curriculum font.
💡 Tip: Use the Write to Text pen with your state's curriculum font to model correct letter formation for the whole class on the big screen — particularly useful for Foundation and Stage 1 teachers.
💡 Tip: Each page in a multi-page whiteboard can use a different font. Switch fonts between pages if you are modelling different handwriting styles in the same lesson.
Troubleshooting / What to Do If It Doesn't Work
- Curriculum fonts are not appearing in the font list — make sure the Whiteboard app has been updated to the latest version via the CommBox Store.
- Write to Text pen is not converting writing correctly — write clearly and at a moderate pace, and make sure no other objects are touching the screen close to the stylus nib. A worn pen nib may behave like a finger rather than a pen — replacement pens are available at karter.com.au/collections/commbox-spares.
