How to clean and maintain your CommBox Intelligent Display Gen 2
Learn how to safely clean your CommBox Intelligent Display Gen 2 screen and frame to keep it looking great and performing at its best.
Applies To:
CommBox Intelligent Display Gen 2 — All sizes (43", 55", 65", 75", 86", 98")
Step 1: Turn off the display and unplug the power cable Before you start cleaning, always turn off the display and unplug the power cable from the wall. This is important for your safety and prevents any liquid from causing an electrical hazard.
⚠️ Safety first: Never clean the display while it is still plugged in.
Step 2: Clean the screen For the best results, use a microfiber cloth with an alcohol-based cleaner. CommBox recommends Isocol, available at most Australian supermarkets and pharmacies (www.isocol.com.au).
- Apply a small amount of Isocol to the microfiber cloth — do not spray it directly onto the screen.
- Gently wipe the screen in smooth, even strokes.
- Make sure no liquid drips or flows into the edges or back of the display.
- Repeat the process a couple of times for a thorough clean.
💡 Tip: Always use a soft, lint-free cloth. Never use paper towels or abrasive cloths, as these can scratch the screen surface.
Step 3: Clean the frame Use a dry, soft, lint-free cloth to wipe the front frame (bezel) of the display. The frame does not need any liquid cleaner — a dry wipe is enough for dust and fingerprints.
Step 4: Avoid these cleaning mistakes
- Do not use water or spray-type detergents directly on the screen or frame.
- Do not use hard or sharp objects to clean the screen.
- Do not use liquid near the vents on the back of the display.
Step 5: Storing the display during extended non-use If the display will not be used for an extended period — such as during school holidays — unplug it from the wall. This protects it from potential damage caused by power surges, lightning, or other electrical issues.
💡 Tip: To protect your screen's performance and lifespan over time, avoid displaying very high-brightness images for long periods. This is especially worth keeping in mind if you use the display as a digital signage screen between lessons.
Troubleshooting / What to Do If It Doesn't Work
- Smudges or streaks remain after cleaning — try a fresh section of the microfiber cloth with a little more Isocol and wipe again using gentle circular motions.
- Screen looks hazy after cleaning — make sure no soap or detergent residue was used. Wipe again with a clean dry cloth.
- Deep scratches or damage to the screen — do not attempt to repair the screen yourself. Log a ticket on the Support Portal at support.commbox.com.au to be connected with an authorised service centre.
