How to add and use Widgets on the CommBox Classic S5 home screenWhat question is your article answering?
Widgets give you instant access to apps, connected devices, websites and screensharing directly from the home screen — including live previews of what is on a connected device before you switch to it.
Applies To
CommBox Classic S5 — All models (CommBox OS Experience required)
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Understand the types of Widgets available
- App Widgets — a live preview shortcut for any app, such as the Whiteboard or Posters.
- Input Widgets — shows a live preview of a connected device (like a laptop or MTR device). Tap to switch to that input.
- CommBox Connect Widget — displays connection details for wireless screensharing with a live preview of the connected device.
- Web Widgets — turns any website into an interactive widget you can use directly from the home screen.
Step 2: Open the Launcher
- Tap either side menu handle to open the side menu, then tap Launcher.
Step 3: Find what you want to add
- Browse the Apps, Connected Devices or Web Links tabs in the Launcher.
Step 4: Drag to the home screen
- Long-press the icon and drag it to an empty spot on the home screen.
- Release to place it as a shortcut.
Step 5: Convert the shortcut into a Widget
- Once placed, drag the shortcut icon slightly to expand it into a widget.
- It will grow to show a live preview.
Step 6: Resize or reposition
- Long-press the widget to move it.
- Drag the edges to resize it.
💡 Tip: Add an Input Widget for your most-used device — such as a connected OPS PC or video conferencing unit — so you can switch to it in one tap from the home screen, with a live preview showing what is already on screen.
💡 Tip: To create a Web Widget, first tap Create Link in the Launcher, enter the web address, tap Populate from URL, then Save. The web link will then appear in the Web Links tab ready to drag to the home screen.
Troubleshooting / What to Do If It Doesn't Work
- Live preview on an Input Widget is blank — make sure the connected device is switched on and actively outputting a signal.
- Cannot find the Create Link option — it is in the Launcher, at the bottom of the Web Links tab.
- Widget has disappeared from the home screen — long-press an empty area on the home screen and check whether the widget was accidentally removed. Re-add it from the Launcher.
