What is CommBox OS Experience

CommBox OS Experience is a custom-designed operating environment built specifically for CommBox interactive screens. It replaces the default Google Certified interface with a feature-rich, secure, and intuitive experience tailored for classrooms and meeting rooms.

Unlike standard Android mode, CommBox OS Experience is purpose-built to give educators and professionals greater control, consistency, and efficiency across all CommBox screens.

CommBox OS Experience and CommBox OS can be used interchangably on a Classic S5 - they mean the same thing.

The difference between CommBox OS on a Classic S4/S4+ and Classic S5 is that the Classic S5 has the CommBox Exp app. This app is what enables and delivers the CommBox OS experience on the Classic S5 screen and it is connected to our cloud platform CommBox Exp where CommBox OS Account screen configurations are store. 

By enabling the CommBox OS Experience, you’ll benefit from:

  • Secure Lobby and Preset Screens: Customise layouts with built-in security features.
  • Integrated Help App: Access support and tips directly from the screen.
  • Exclusive Tools: Make use of built-in utilities like a clock, spinner, scoreboard, and more.
  • Fleet Management: Manage your devices remotely with the pre-installed CommBox Manage, complete with a 7-year license.

To enable CommBox OS Experience, ensure your device has the latest firmware and is in "Traditional Navigation" gesture mode then, follow these steps:

  • Open the CommBox Experience App from the home screen.
  • Enable CommBox OS Experience mode with the toggle

  • Configure your device settings to suit your organisation’s needs:
    • Accounts and Security:
      • CommBox Lobby – ensure the ultimate in Cyber security, whilst still allowing logged-in users access to apps and tools
      • Access Policy – Choose if you’d like to use CommBox Accounts, keep the screen open, or both
      • App Access - Limit access to any apps.
    • Control: Select compatible stand settings (if applicable).
    • PIN Lock: Protect the settings menu by setting an administrator PIN. This is a unified PIN that will be used for these settings, the Device settings and the System Settings.
    • Export Settings:
      • Save your configured settings for easy deployment on other CommBox S5 devices.
      • To replicate the setup, import the saved file into CommBox Experience on another S5 device via USB stick or push through Manage
  • Save and Exit::Finalise your settings and exit the menu.
  • The device will reboot and your changes will be applied.

    When the screen restarts, it will now operate in CommBox OS Experience mode, providing access to all the advanced features and capabilities.
