A plain-language guide to every port on the CommBox Meeting Room Display Gen 2 — what each one does and when to use it.
Applies To CommBox Meeting Room Display Gen 2 — All models
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Locate Your Ports
- All ports are located along the back edge of the screen
- The layout from left to right is: LAN, USB-C, USB-A, RS232 In, RS232 Out, IR In, HDMI 2, HDMI 1 (ARC), DisplayPort, Audio Out, Audio In, VGA
Step 2: Understand Each Port
- HDMI 1 (ARC) — connect a laptop, video bar, or media player; carries video and audio in one cable; most common connection for presentations; supports Audio Return Channel
- HDMI 2 — second HDMI port for connecting a second device simultaneously
- DisplayPort (DP) — high-quality 4K digital video; a great alternative to HDMI
- USB Type-C — single cable connection for video and audio from a modern laptop
- USB-A 2.0 — for firmware updates only; not for media playback or charging
- VGA — for older laptops or PCs with analogue output; video only; use HDMI or DisplayPort for better quality
- Audio Out — connect external speakers, headphones, or an amplifier
- Audio In — connect an external audio source to play sound through the screen's speakers
- LAN — connects the screen to your network for remote management; disabled by default; contact your CommBox reseller to enable
- RS232 In / Out (RJ45) — connects to room automation or AV control systems for remote power, volume, and input switching
- IR In — connect an external infrared receiver when the built-in sensor is blocked or out of reach
💡 Tip: For most everyday use in a meeting room or classroom, HDMI is all you need. Use HDMI 1 for your main device and HDMI 2 for a second device when needed.
Troubleshooting / What to Do If It Doesn't Work
- USB-C not showing video — check your laptop's USB-C port supports video output (Thunderbolt or DisplayPort over USB-C); not all USB-C ports carry video
- VGA connected but no sound — VGA carries video only; connect a separate cable to the Audio In port for sound
- LAN port not working — this port is disabled by default; contact your CommBox reseller to have it enabled
