There are two methods to update your firmware:

Via the Over the Air (OTA) server
Via a USB update

Check the latest firmware version for your CommBox screen before you begin.

Update via OTA Update Method

This is the preferred method because it keeps your existing apps and configuration. Your screen must be connected to the internet.

Step 1: Navigate to Settings

Using the remote control, navigate to Settings from the Home screen.

Step 2: Access System Settings

In the Settings menu, select System.

Step 3: Select System Update

Within System, select System Update to check for available firmware updates.

Step 4: Upgrade to the Latest Version

If an update is available, select Upgrade to install the latest version.
If no update is displayed, select Check for Update to search manually.

💡 Tip: Do not turn off the screen or disconnect it from the internet while the update is installing.

Step 5: Troubleshoot Missing Updates

If there is still no update available after checking, refer to the Networking Whitepaper to make sure your network settings allow OTA updates.

Update your firmware via a USB drive

If your screen cannot be connected to the internet, you can update the firmware using a USB drive.

⚠️ Important: A USB update returns the screen to factory settings. All existing apps and configurations will be removed.

Step 1: Request the firmware files

Log a ticket via the CommBox Support Portal to request the firmware files.
Include the correct serial number for your Intelligent Display Gen 2.

Step 2: Download the firmware files

The CommBox Support team will send you a secure download link. This link expires after seven days.

Step 3: Prepare the USB drive

Download and unzip the firmware file. Copy the unzipped firmware files to the root drive of a USB stick.

Step 4: Insert the USB drive

Insert the USB drive into the USB-A 2.0 port on the back of the screen.

Step 5: Turn off the screen

Turn off the screen using the AC power switch on the back of the screen.

Step 6: Start the USB update

Press and hold the power button on the screen. While holding the button, turn the AC power switch back on.
Wait until the power indicator starts flashing, then release the power button.

Step 7: Allow the update to complete

The screen will begin updating the firmware.
Do not turn off the screen, remove the USB drive or disconnect power while the update is in progress.

Step 8: Complete the Set Up Wizard

When the update is complete, follow the Set Up Wizard to configure the screen again.

Step 9: Update CommBox OS apps

Open the CommBox Store and check for updates to CommBox OS apps that may have been released separately from the firmware.
Install or update any required CommBox OS tools or apps to make sure the screen functions correctly.
Reminder: Keep your firmware up to date

Under the CommBox Warranty Terms and Conditions, you must keep your firmware up to date to maintain the validity of your warranty.

Troubleshooting / What to Do If It Doesn’t Work

No update is available

Select Check for Update again. If an update still does not appear, check your network settings using the Networking Whitepaper.

The USB update does not start

Check that the firmware files have been unzipped and copied to the main folder of the USB drive. Confirm that the firmware was supplied for your Intelligent Display Gen 2.

The screen does not start normally after the update

Log a ticket via the CommBox Support Portal for assistance.
