How to use CommBox Crestron Drivers for screen control

Learn how to integrate your CommBox Display with Crestron control systems using our certified drivers.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Download the CommBox Crestron Driver Package

  • Visit the CommBox Content Hub link: Download Here

  • Download the zipped folder titled CommBox Crestron Module

  • Extract the folder to your local drive

💡 Tip: The driver is Crestron Certified and compatible with SIMPL Windows and SIMPL+.

Step 2: Add the Module to Your Crestron Project

  • Open your project in SIMPL Windows

  • In the Project Tree, right-click on the “User Modules” folder

  • Select Add User Module

  • Navigate to the extracted folder and add the CommBox_Display_1_0.umc module

Step 3: Connect the CommBox Display via IP or RS232

  • For IP control:

    • Ensure the CommBox screen is on the same network as the Crestron controller

    • Use port 5000 for IP communication

  • For RS232 control:

    • Connect the RS232 cable to the COM port on the Crestron controller

    • Use the following settings:

      • Baud Rate: 9600

      • Data Bits: 8

      • Parity: None

      • Stop Bits: 1

🛠️ Tip: You can find the RS232 port at the rear of the CommBox screen, labelled "RS232".

Step 4: Configure the Module Inputs and Outputs

  • Double-click the CommBox_Display_1_0 module in your program workspace

  • Map the digital inputs like Power_On, Power_Off, HDMI1_Select, etc., to your user interface controls

  • Use feedback signals such as Power_Status_FB and Input_Status_FB to confirm actions

Step 5: Compile and Upload Your Program

  • Save your project

  • Compile it in SIMPL Windows

  • Upload the compiled program to your Crestron processor

  • The CommBox drivers will be available in the Cloud XIO and from the Crestron website shortly - pending final approval.
