Safe placement and ventilation guidelines for your CommBox Intelligent Display Gen 2

Learn how to correctly position and ventilate your CommBox Intelligent Display Gen 2 to keep it safe, avoid overheating, and ensure it performs at its best for years to come.

Applies To:

CommBox Intelligent Display Gen 2 — All sizes (43", 55", 65", 75", 86", 98")

Quick Summary:

Where and how you position your CommBox Intelligent Display Gen 2 matters. Correct placement ensures the unit stays cool, avoids damage, and gives everyone in the room the best viewing experience. This guide is particularly useful for IT staff, facilities teams, and anyone involved in installing the display.

Step 1: Choose a well-ventilated location

Place the CommBox Intelligent Display Gen 2 in a well-ventilated area where heat can escape freely. The display generates heat during normal operation, and good airflow prevents overheating and extends the life of the unit.

Step 2: Allow the required clearance around the display

Make sure the display has the following minimum clearance on all sides:

  • Left side: at least 10cm of clear space
  • Right side: at least 10cm of clear space
  • Back: at least 10cm of clear space
  • Top: at least 20cm of clear space

⚠️ Do not mount or position the display in an enclosed cabinet or alcove without adequate ventilation. Blocking the vents on the back of the display can cause overheating and may damage the unit.

Step 3: Check the operating temperature

The CommBox Intelligent Display Gen 2 is designed to operate in environments between 0°C and 40°C. Do not install the display in rooms that regularly exceed this temperature range, such as unventilated storerooms or rooms with direct sun exposure.

💡 Tip: Avoid placing the display near radiators, heaters, or air conditioning vents that blow hot air directly onto the unit. A stable room temperature gives the best performance and longest lifespan.

Step 4: Check the operating humidity

The display operates best in environments with a relative humidity between 10% and 90% RH (non-condensing). Avoid installing the display in areas prone to high humidity, such as near indoor pools, kitchens, or in outdoor-facing spaces without climate control.

Step 5: Avoid direct sunlight and heat sources

Do not position the display where it will receive direct sunlight for extended periods. Sunlight can cause glare on the screen, make it harder to see content, and generate additional heat that the display needs to manage.

Step 6: Ensure the unit is on a stable, secure surface or mount

Do not place the CommBox Intelligent Display Gen 2 on an unstable trolley, stand, bracket, or shelf. Ensure any wall mount or stand used is rated for the size and weight of your display model. If in doubt, consult your installer or CommBox reseller.

⚠️ Do not place heavy objects on top of the display. Do not position the display near appliances that generate strong magnetic fields, such as large speakers or industrial equipment.

Step 7: Allow warm-up time after moving the display

If you move the display from a cold environment to a warm one — for example, bringing it in from a cold storage area — wait at least 2 hours before plugging it in. This allows any moisture that may have condensed inside the unit to evaporate, preventing damage to internal components.

💡 Tip: If the display will not be used for an extended period, such as during school holidays, unplug it from the wall to protect it from power surges and lightning strikes.

Troubleshooting / What to Do If It Doesn't Work

  • Display feels very hot to touch — check that all required clearances are in place and that the vents on the back are not blocked by a wall, furniture, or cables.
  • Display shuts down unexpectedly — this can be caused by overheating. Power the unit off, check ventilation clearances, and allow it to cool down before restarting.
  • Condensation or moisture visible — if you have recently moved the display from a cold environment, unplug it immediately and wait at least 2 hours before use.
