How to use the home screen on your CommBox Classic S4
The CommBox Classic S4 home screen is your central hub for apps, tools, and settings. It’s fully customisable so you can set it up to suit your classroom or workspace.

Home Screen Overview
The home screen has seven main parts:

Top toolbar – shows time, connection icons, and system indicators

Home screen widget area – includes quick access to your most-used tools

Shortcut drop zone – drag and drop apps here to create shortcuts

Swipe-up menu – access volume, brightness, and device settings quickly
- Folders - you can group apps together into folders (Flying Fox firmware and above)
- Widgets - shortcuts to apps and weblinks on the homescreen that can be resized
- Wallpaper - the background to your homescreen
Top Toolbar Icons
At the top of the screen, you’ll see several helpful indicators:
Icon | Meaning |
---|---|
Wi-Fi symbol | Shows if connected to wireless and signal strength |
Ethernet icon | Indicates a wired network connection |
USB icon | A USB device is connected |
Hotspot icon | CommBox hotspot is active |
Clock | Displays current time and date |
💡 Tip: You can change the date and time in Settings > System > Date & Time.
Home Screen Widgets
The default widget section includes shortcuts to the most commonly used tools:
Widget | Function |

Browser | Opens the built-in Chrome browser to surf the web |
Whiteboard | Launches the CommBox Whiteboard app for drawing and lessons |
Screensharing | Opens CommBox Connect for wireless mirroring from other devices |
Store | Opens the CommBox Store to install or update apps |
Help | Opens the Help app with guides, videos, and offline assistance |
Files | Opens file explorer to access USB files, downloads, and saved work |
You can tap any of these icons to open the app instantly.
Customising the Home Screen
Want to add your own favourite apps or links?

Open the Launcher (from the side menu)

Drag any app, tool, or web link from the launcher onto the shortcut drop zone

Arrange them however you like
To remove a shortcut, long-press it and tap Delete.
Swipe-Up Menu
Swipe up from the bottom of the home screen to access quick settings, including:

Troubleshooting / What to Do If It Doesn’t Work

Widgets not showing?

Restart the screen or make sure you're on the Android home screen, not a different input

Can't drag icons?

Make sure you’re using the Launcher and not trying to move built-in widgets

Can't add icons?

Make sure you’re adding icon shortcuts from the launcher onto the homescreen. You can't drag from the sidebar.
