How to use Primary User Mode on the CommBox Classic S5

Primary User Mode lets you stay logged into your CommBox Account all year round, so your apps, files and settings are always ready — with a secure lock screen to protect your session when you step away.

Applies To

CommBox Classic S5 — All models (Goanna firmware and above, CommBox OS Experience and CommBox Account required)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Open CommBox OS Experience Settings

  • From the home screen, tap the CommBox Experience app.

Step 2: Navigate to Accounts and Sessions

  • Tap Accounts and Security, then tap Accounts and Sessions.

Step 3: Enable Primary User Mode

  • Scroll to Allow Users to Stay Logged In and toggle it on.
  • This enables Primary User Mode for any user who logs in on this screen.

Step 4: Log into your CommBox Account

  • Tap Login on the side menu.
  • Sign in with your Microsoft or Google credentials linked to your CommBox Account, or scan the QR code.

Step 5: Lock your screen when stepping away

  • Press the power button, or tap the Lock icon in the control bar at the bottom of the side menu.
  • The screen will lock and display a secure lock screen.

Step 6: Resume your session

  • When you return, tap the screen and authenticate using your NFC card (hold it to the reader at the bottom of the screen) or scan the QR code with your phone.
  • Your session resumes instantly — right where you left off.

💡 Tip: Keep your NFC card in your lanyard or badge holder so it is always with you — resuming your session takes less than a second.

💡 Tip: All your apps remain open, your data is not cleared, and you can continue your lesson exactly where you left off — even after the weekend.

Troubleshooting / What to Do If It Doesn't Work

  • Screen is not staying logged in after a restart — Primary User Mode preserves sessions through standby and screen off, but not a full restart or firmware update. After a reboot, log back in with your CommBox Account.
  • Cannot find Allow Users to Stay Logged In — this setting requires Goanna firmware and CommBox OS Experience. Check that both are active and up to date.
  • NFC card is not logging in — confirm your NFC card has been registered to your CommBox Account. Tap your name in the side menu and select Manage My NFC Card.
