How to use pressure sensitivity and pen and finger differentiation on the CommBox Classic S5
The Classic S5 supports pressure-sensitive writing with the Brush pen in CommBox Whiteboard, and the screen can tell the difference between your stylus and your finger at the same time — no more switching between draw and select modes.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Update the CommBox Whiteboard
- Open the CommBox Store and install any available Whiteboard updates before continuing.
Step 2: Open the CommBox Whiteboard
- From the home screen or side menu, tap Whiteboard.
Step 3: Select the Brush pen to use pressure sensitivity
- Tap the Pen icon in the toolbar.
- Select the Brush style from the list of pen types.
- Pick up a CommBox stylus and write or draw on the screen.
- Press harder for thick, bold strokes — press lightly for thin, delicate lines.
Step 4: Use pen and finger differentiation
- The screen automatically detects when a CommBox stylus is touching it.
- While writing with the stylus, use your other hand to tap, select or navigate with your finger.
- The screen treats the stylus as the drawing tool and the finger as the selection tool simultaneously — no need to switch modes.
Step 5: Write with palm rejection enabled
- Rest your writing hand naturally on the screen while writing.
- Built-in palm rejection prevents your palm from creating accidental marks.
- Palm rejection is enabled by default on new Goanna builds.
💡 Tip: The Brush pen with pressure sensing is especially engaging for Art lessons and handwriting modelling — students can take turns experimenting with different pressure levels for expressive, natural-looking results.
💡 Tip: Pen and finger differentiation means a student can point at something on the whiteboard with their finger while another student writes with the stylus — both actions work at the same time.
Troubleshooting / What to Do If It Doesn't Work
- Brush pen is not responding to pressure — confirm you are using an official CommBox stylus. Pressure sensing is not supported with third-party styluses.
- Screen is not differentiating between pen and finger — restart the Whiteboard app. If the issue continues, go to Settings > Applications > Whiteboard, clear the app cache and reopen the Whiteboard.
- Palm rejection is leaving marks on the screen — go to the Whiteboard Menu > Settings and check that Palm Rejection is enabled. On Goanna, this defaults to on for new installs.
