How to set up and use CommBox Lobby on the Classic S5
Learn how to enable CommBox Lobby on your Classic S5 to create a cyber-secure shared screen environment — every session starts fresh and your data is automatically cleared when it ends.
Applies To
CommBox Classic S5 — All models (CommBox OS Experience required)
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Open CommBox OS Experience Settings
- From the home screen, tap the CommBox Experience app icon to open the CommBox OS Experience settings.
Step 2: Enable CommBox Lobby
- Tap Accounts and Security, then tap Lobby.
- Toggle Enable Lobby to the on position.
Step 3: Choose how users start a session
- Once Lobby is enabled, select your Access Policy:
- Express Session & Accounts — guests can start a session without logging in, and CommBox Account holders can log in for a personalised experience.
- Accounts Only — only users with a CommBox Account can start a session.
- Express Only — all users start as guests, no login required.
Step 4: Configure optional security rules
- Allow Input Switching from the Lobby — lets users switch to an input (like HDMI) directly from the Lobby screen.
- Auto-Return to Lobby Timer — automatically returns the screen to the Lobby after a period of inactivity on an input.
- Auto-Return to Lobby Timeout — sets how long the screen waits before returning to the Lobby.
- Return to Android on No Signal — returns to the Lobby the moment a connected device goes to sleep or is disconnected.
Step 5: Save and reboot
- Tap Save and exit the settings. The screen will reboot to apply your changes.
💡 Tip: Use Accounts Only mode in environments where student privacy is critical, such as BYOD classrooms or shared staff rooms.
💡 Tip: Lobby is the most secure setup for any shared screen. Even if a user forgets to log out, everything is wiped automatically at the end of their session.
Troubleshooting / What to Do If It Doesn't Work
- Lobby screen is flashing or restarting — this was a known issue resolved in the Goanna firmware update. Go to Settings > System > System Update and install the latest update.
- Users can't start a session — check that your Access Policy is not set to Accounts Only when you have guests without CommBox Accounts. Switch to Express Session & Accounts if needed.
