How to rename input ports on the CommBox Classic S5
Give your connected devices a friendly name — like Teacher Laptop or MTR Room — so anyone can switch inputs without guessing which port is which.
Applies To
CommBox Classic S5 — All models (Goanna firmware and above)
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Access the Device Settings menu
- Swipe up from the bottom centre of the screen to open the Device Settings swipe-up menu.
Step 2: Go to Lock settings
- Scroll across the tabs at the top of the Device Settings menu and tap Lock.
Step 3: Enable Input Renaming
- Scroll down and toggle on Allow Input Source Renaming.
Step 4: Rename an input
- Tap the input you want to rename from the list.
- A text field will appear — type your custom name, for example:
- Teacher PC
- Guest HDMI
- Apple TV
- Video Conference
- Tap Save.
Step 5: Confirm the new name
- Open the Launcher or the swipe-up inputs tab.
- Your custom name will now appear in place of the default input name (like HDMI 1 or USB-C).
💡 Tip: In a meeting room or shared classroom with several permanently connected devices, renaming inputs makes a big difference — guests can switch to the right device in one tap without asking for help.
Troubleshooting / What to Do If It Doesn't Work
- Cannot find Allow Input Source Renaming — confirm the screen is running Goanna firmware or later. Update via Settings > System > System Update if needed.
- Custom name is not appearing in the input selector — close and reopen the Device Settings menu, then check the Launcher inputs list. A restart may be needed if the name does not update immediately.
- Input name has reverted to default — this can occur after a firmware update. Re-enable Allow Input Source Renaming and re-enter your custom names.
