Quick Summary
The screen freeze tool lets you pause the live image on your CommBox Intelligent Display Gen 2 so students see a frozen frame while you work in the background, switch inputs, or address the class. It's one of the most useful tools for everyday classroom teaching.
Step 1: Locate the Blue button on the remote control
Pick up your CommBox Intelligent Display Gen 2 remote control and find the Blue button. It is one of four coloured buttons (Red, Green, Yellow, Blue) located in the middle section of the remote.
Step 2: Press the Blue button to freeze the screen
While your content is displaying on screen, press the Blue button on the remote control. The image on screen will freeze — it will appear as a still image even if the source content is still changing behind the scenes.
💡 Tip: This is perfect for moments when you want to pause on a diagram, a student's work, or a key piece of information while you explain it to the class. You can keep talking and moving around without the screen changing.
Step 3: Continue working in the background
While the screen is frozen, you can switch inputs, navigate menus, or work on your connected device. Students will continue to see the frozen image on the display.
Step 4: Press the Blue button again to unfreeze
When you are ready to return to the live content, press the Blue button on the remote control again. The screen will return to displaying the live content from your connected device or the Android home screen.
💡 Tip: If you have misplaced your remote control, you can also access the screen freeze tool through the display's on-screen menu. Go to Menu and look for the screen freeze or freeze tool option.
Step 5: Turn the screen backlight on or off (optional)
If you want to blank the screen entirely rather than freeze it — for example, during independent work time — press the backlight button on the remote control (the small square icon). Press it again to bring the screen back on. This is different from freeze: the backlight button turns the screen dark, while freeze holds a still image.
Troubleshooting / What to Do If It Doesn't Work
- Blue button not responding — check that the remote control batteries are not flat and that you are pointing the remote toward the receiver on the back of the display.
- Screen unfreezes on its own — this can happen if a system event or input change overrides the freeze. Try freezing again and avoid switching inputs while the freeze is active.
- Cannot find the freeze option in the menu — make sure your display is running current firmware. If the option is missing, log a ticket on the Support Portal at support.commbox.com.au.
