How to export and import CommBox OS Experience settings on the Classic S5

Export your CommBox OS Experience configuration to a USB drive and import it onto other Classic S5 screens — the fastest way for IT teams to roll out a consistent setup across an entire school.

Applies To

CommBox Classic S5 — All models (CommBox OS Experience required)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Configure your master screen

  • Set up CommBox OS Experience on one screen exactly as you want it — including Lobby settings, home screen presets, wallpaper, session lengths, app access policies and side menus.

Step 2: Plug in a USB drive

  • Insert a USB drive into one of the USB ports on the front or side of the Classic S5.

Step 3: Open CommBox OS Experience Settings

  • From the home screen, tap the CommBox Experience app.

Step 4: Export your settings

  • Scroll to the bottom of the CommBox OS Experience settings and tap Export Settings.
  • Enter a descriptive name for the file, for example SchoolSetup_Term1.
  • Tap Save. The settings file will be saved to your USB drive.

Step 5: Move to the next screen and import

  • Plug the USB drive into the target Classic S5.
  • Open CommBox OS Experience settings on that screen.
  • Scroll to the bottom and tap Import Settings.
  • Navigate to the USB drive and select your settings file.
  • Confirm the import when prompted.

Step 6: Reboot to apply

  • The screen will reboot automatically and apply the imported settings.

💡 Tip: Configure and test your ideal setup on one screen before rolling out. This lets you catch any issues before they affect every screen in the school.

💡 Tip: Save a clearly named settings file for each distinct setup you use — for example, one for classrooms and one for meeting rooms — and label your USB drives to match.

Troubleshooting / What to Do If It Doesn't Work

  • USB drive is not being detected — try a different USB port. Open the Files app from the Launcher to confirm the drive is visible. Make sure the drive is formatted as FAT32 or exFAT.
  • Settings are not applying after import — make sure the target screen is running the same firmware version as the source screen. Update all screens to the latest firmware first and then attempt the import again.
  • Import Settings option is not visible — confirm CommBox OS Experience is enabled.
