How to create and apply custom home screen presets on the CommBox Classic S5

Home screen presets let you design different screen layouts for different user modes — Lobby, Express sessions and logged-in users — so your screen always looks exactly the way your school or organisation needs it to.

CommBox Classic S5 — All models (CommBox OS Experience required)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Open CommBox OS Experience Settings

  • From the home screen, tap the CommBox Experience app.

Step 2: Go to Home & Side Menus

  • Tap Home & Side Menus in the settings list.
  • You will see a list of available presets and the modes they apply to: Lobby, Express Session, Logged-in Users, and All New Account Users.

Step 3: Create a new preset

  • Tap the + button.
  • A blank canvas will appear where you can design your home screen layout.

Step 4: Add shortcuts and widgets to your preset

  • Open the Launcher from the side menu.
  • Drag apps, tools, inputs or web links onto the canvas.
  • To turn a shortcut into a widget, drag the icon open once it is placed on the canvas.

Step 5: Save your preset

  • Tap Save Preset in the top menu bar and give it a name.

Step 6: Apply your preset to a mode

  • Back in Home & Side Menus, find your new preset and assign it to the mode you want — for example, the Lobby or all logged-in users.

💡 Tip: Create a Lobby preset with your school logo, the room's Wi-Fi name and a short welcome message. This gives a professional first impression and helps guests get started without asking for help.

💡 Tip: You can apply different home screen presets and side menus to different modes — your Lobby can look completely different from what a logged-in teacher sees.

Troubleshooting / What to Do If It Doesn't Work

  • Preset is not appearing for users — confirm the preset has been assigned to the correct mode. Save settings and reboot the screen.
  • Preset is showing for the wrong mode — go back into Home & Side Menus, check which modes each preset is assigned to and reassign as needed.
