[Firmware Releases](https://support.commbox.com.au/knowledge/commbox-classic-s5?hsLang=en#firmware-releases) # Classic S5: Store and Tool Updates - September 2026 ## This update improves the reliability of presets, personalisation, account sessions and file access on CommBox Classic S5 screens. It also adds improved support for opening and presenting Google Workspace and Microsoft Office files, plus a new fortnightly scheduling option in Planner. ### **What’s New - September 2026** #### **Improved Google Workspace and Microsoft Office file access** Google Docs, Sheets and Slides can now be opened directly from the Files and Tray apps. Files open in the appropriate Google editor, with the option to present or export them as a PDF. Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files can now open directly in the installed Microsoft app where available, supporting AutoSave. If the relevant app is not installed, the file will open in Office for the web. #### **Planner: Week A and Week B schedules** Planner now includes a fortnightly scheduling option. This makes it easier to create routines for schools and other environments that operate using alternating Week A and Week B timetables. #### **More reliable preset imports** Presets exported from screens using Goanna firmware can now be imported and applied on supported Classic S5 screens. Preset imports are also more reliable. If a preset file is invalid or incompatible, the screen will now show that the import has failed rather than applying an incomplete layout. Administrators now have up to three attempts to enter the administrator PIN when importing a preset. #### **Improved personalisation and wallpaper experience** Personalisation is now streamlined for CommBox account users, with clearer prompts and access limited to the relevant account. Profile wallpapers are now retained after a firmware update. Wallpapers selected through Android settings are also retained after a restart for CommBox account users. If a selected wallpaper cannot be applied, the screen will return to the default wallpaper to help protect user privacy between sessions. #### **Improved Tray and Cloud Drives experience** Opening a whiteboard from a Tray Collection now opens the selected whiteboard correctly. Tray items are less likely to open more than once when tapped during a slow connection. Cloud files that have been deleted now display a clear “not found” message. Cloud Drive folders can now be opened in compatible apps, making it easier to access shared content outside the Files app. #### **Stability and Session Improvements** - Improved logout reliability and session cleanup. - Improved protection of user content when a session ends. - Faster access to the lock screen after signing in. - Improved handling when account services are temporarily unavailable, including access to administrator options. - Improved stability when a connected laptop briefly loses signal during start-up, helping the screen remain in the CommBox Experience. ### **How to Update** 1. Navigate to the CommBox Store. You will be prompted for a CommBox OS bundle update, select **Update now**. 2. Before selecting Update, navigate to **Settings** on the top right-hand side of your screen. 3. Ensure that **Silent App Install** is turned on. 4.
